What would make you happier than a birthday party loaded up with trucks and Blues Clues?! Nothing, if you were my nephew. Nothing at all.
His birthday party was this past Sunday and I'm about to demonstrate to you how this creative gene runs in my family.
First, my mom (also known as "Nama" if you're her grandson, or the sewing pattern savior if you're, well, me) was instructed by my sister to make a truck cake. Truck cake, you say? No problemo.
And this was born!!

Mom totally came up with this whole idea and did all the baking and frosting and got the trucks. My input was the idea to make it look like a work site with the dump truck hauling some cookie dirt and the bulldozer pushing the pile of cookie dirt. I also suggested we use the palm trees leftover from drink stirrers from the previous night's bachelorette party as foliage—it's a tropical work site! (And it was a looooong weekend—don't ask.)

But then apparently there is also an obsession with Blues Clues going on. So my sister and brother-in-law made clue pawprints that Reghan found outside his bedroom door upon waking up from his afternoon nap. And the pawprint clues led all the way down the stairs to the basement rec room where the whole family was waiting for the party to get started!
And, she made this cake, as suggested by her incredibly crafty friend Katie.

Happy birthday, Critter Bug!

That kid is so lucky to have such crafty friends and family!
I love the truck cake, and I'm glad the stirrers went to good use ;)
Actually even a 38-year-old boy could get pretty excited about a truck cake.
